Our Mission

Positive Youth Development of Erie County activates communities to create healthy, caring, and responsible individuals.

Positive Youth Development (PYD) has been working throughout Erie County, Pennsylvania to grow capacity to reach as many segments of the community as possible. PYD is a collaborative initiative that utilizes Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets® framework, which identifies a set of skills, experiences, relationships, and behaviors that enable young people to develop into healthy, caring, and responsible adults. PYD partners with and collaborates with hundreds of organizations within Erie County.

The 40 Developmental Assets® are protective factors that have consistently shown, by research, to buffer youth from risk. The more assets a child has the higher possibility that child will not be involved in problem behaviors such as: teen pregnancy, school dropout, substance abuse, delinquency, and violence.

Through the 40 Development Assets®, Positive Youth Development strives to make Erie County a community of individuals who share goals, visions and accountability for youth success.

Our Vision

All Erie County children, youth and adults are thriving and productive, creating diverse and successful communities.

Together, we can make Erie County a place for youth to grow up great!
